Virginia Mae (Hunter) Adcock died at 89 years of age in her home in Apple, Oklahoma on Thursday, February 18, 2021. She was born on November 8, 1931 in Okemah, Oklahoma to John and Eliza Jane (Williamson) Hunter.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Adcock; her parents, John and Eliza Jane Hunter; siblings Allen “Joe” Hunter and his wife Merle, Ethel Hunter, Carl “Pete” Hunter and his wife Betty, Geneva Hunter and her husbands, Fred Miller and Fred Coden, Willie “Benny” Oden and his wife Genie, Don Hunter and his ex-wife, Myrtle, Dempsey Hunter and his wife Mary, Dan Hunter, Virgie Hunter and Marion “Bob” Southwick.

Virginia started first grade at Rattan Schools in 1938 and continued through the tenth grade. She married Norris L. (Jack) Adcock on July 2, 1949 in DeQueen, Arkansas. Their first son, Norris L. (Jackie), Jr was born on March 8, 1951. Their second son, Barney Lee, was born at home on June 20, 1954.

Jack and Virginia raised their boys on the family land east of Apple where they farmed and ranched. She took part in the family’s gardening, raising and butchering of hogs and chickens, picking cotton, logging, growing peanuts, raising and feeding cattle, cutting and baling hay, fixing fence and anything else that was needed to help provide for her family. Virginia enjoyed cooking for her family and sewing all of her clothes as well as pearl snapped western shirts for Jack, Jackie and Barney. She also enjoyed visits with her extended family, making quilts by hand, and sitting on the front porch swing. Virginia did not think any meal was complete without fixing pinto beans, fried potatoes, and either cornbread or biscuits. She always had faithful companions around her in the form of many pet dogs throughout the years. She attended Assembly of God Church in Rattan and took her sons when they were younger. Virginia was very proud of her sons and supported them as they grew up, going to rodeos and other activities.

Virginia is survived by her sons, Jackie Adcock and wife Janice and Barney Adcock; two granddaughters, Jamie and Jenna Adcock; sisters-in-law Ramona Hunter and Janice Southwick along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Miller & Miller Funeral Home in Hugo.
