On July 8, 2022, Robert Earl Gregg won his battle with cancer, victoriously entering into the presence of Jesus. Robert was born on April 28, 1953 in Enid, Oklahoma to Cledith and Viola (Wyssmann) Gregg. Robert attended school at Hayward, later graduating from Covington High School in 1971. He lived in both Perry and Ponca City, but most of his life was spent in rural Covington.

Robert was an avid reader, enjoying westerns, science fiction, alternative-history, and early-American history. Robert collected many things besides books, including arrowheads, coins, antique bottles, miniature cast iron skillets, rocks & minerals, old advertising anvils, halfway-inappropriate jokes, and numerous other treasures that are too many to name.

Robert loved astronomy, gold panning, foraging for mushrooms, John Deere tractors, gardening, Southwestern American culture, and so much more. Robert was a member of the Enid Coin Club.

Robert worked for various employers over the years, including Big J of Perry and most recently Earnheart Propane of Marshall. He regularly drove big trucks, was a gifted backhoe operator, and he found joy in taking care of his propane customers. In 2020, Robert retired from Earnheart Propane.

Robert married the love of his life, Janna, on July 23, 1977, and they made their home together. Robert loved her tremendously, and she was undoubtably his best friend. Janna complimented Robert in almost every way. She was his helper, encourager, and supporter.

Janna spent much of this last year by Robert’s side, and her display of love, compassion, and faithfulness is appreciated by all.

Robert is preceded in death by his father and mother, Cledith and Viola Gregg. He is survived in death by his loving wife, Janna, his siblings Shirley (Dennis) Osburn of Enid, Dianna (Rick) Wallace of Cherokee, Carol (Ed) King of Enid, and his brother Ross (Jennifer) Gregg of Lucien. Also surviving are Robert and Janna’s children, Phillip (Aracely) Gregg, and Melissa Hughes, both of Covington. Robert and Janna’s five grandchildren, Anna, Julia, Abbigayl, Aaron, and Clara, will miss their Papa so much.

A celebration of life with family and friends is scheduled for 12:30pm, on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Covington, with Pastor Tommy Donaldson officiating. The funeral is under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home, and suggested memorials include Hospice Circle of Love, St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, or First Baptist Church of Covington with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
