JoAnn Appelbaum passed away February 15, 2024, in Enid.

JoAnn was born on October 7, 1944, in Claremore to Johnnie and Doris Jones (Wix). She had three siblings.

JoAnn graduated in 1964 from Claremore High School.

In 1974, she married Gene Appelbaum of Perry. They lived in Oklahoma City where she worked as a nurse. In 1988, they moved to Gene’s family farm north of Perry.

She was in the U.S. Air Force Reserve from 1970-1976.

JoAnn loved all things OSU, and when able, attended numerous sporting events. She also enjoyed her time with her grandkids.

She also loved her animals. For several years, she raised and showed Miniature Schnauzers and Wire Fox Terriers, and was an active member of the Oklahoma City Obedience Training Club.

JoAnn was a member of the American Legion in Perry, where she served as Chaplain, Trustee, and Finance Officer. She was Sergeant at Arms for District 8, and was Chaplain and Vice President of the American Legion Auxiliary. For the American Legion, she was the originator of Project Everlasting, which raises funds to provide flags and grave markers for cemeteries in Noble County. JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Gene, as well as her brothers Bobbie Gene and Johnnie Ray. She is survived by her brother Billy Joe, her son Terry (Lawton), her daughter Tracie (Stillwater), her step sons Mark (Tulsa) and Wade (OKC), and her grandkids. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the First Christian Church in Perry, at 10 a.m.
