Every year, one Perry tradition that inspires the gift of giving is the DHS Star Tree. Every year Perry Upper Elementary Student Council sponsors the tree, with teacher sponsor Caprecia Betchan.

Betchan has been participating in this event for 16 years.

Upper elementary Student Council is made of 4th, 5th and 6th graders. Typically, Upper Elementary Student Council collect and wrap the gifts.

After wrapping, gifts are delivered, either by DHS staff or educators from school to deliver to the families in need.

The stars placed on the tree are the wants and needs for children who are currently in Foster Care in Noble County.

Usually, each year, the foster children have a need for a coat, shoes, shirt, and pants, Then they also have four wishes like toys and gifts they wanted.

These wishes on the tree are fulfilled each year with the help of students and families, as well as lots of tremendous help from the community.

This year, they are also seeking donations of wrapping paper.

Perry Upper Elementary Student Council Star Tree star (needs and wishes) can be found at the Upper Elementary and at the Noble County Family YMCA.

The YMCA is partnering with the Perry Upper Elementary Student Council this year.

Residents are invited to stop by and/or reach out to either location to select one or more stars, shop, and return the gifts to The Y or the school by Friday, Dec. 10.

If you have any questions, please contact the Perry Upper Elementary School or the front desk or the YMCA.
